"Prototritia" or "Prototrigitia" on Skopelos

In Skopelos, every 1^st of September, a Christian custom, the "ampodiako", revives by the women of the island. The 1^st of September or "the beginning of the indiction" according to Church records, is the first day of the year. Thus, housewives go to the water source in the morning to fill a jug with water and when they return they enter the house with the right foot and sprinkle the four corners of the house with the water, saying: “Just like the flowing water may goodness flow in our house”. Afterwards, they place a pomegranate on the threshold of the house and cast a stone so that the occupants of the house live a robust life.
