"Prototritia" or "Prototrigitia" on Skopelos

In Skopelos, every 1st of September, a Christian custom, the "ampodiako", revives by the women of the island. The 1st of September or "the beginning of the indiction" according to Church records, is the first day of the year. Thus, housewives go to the water source in the morning to fill a jug with water and when they return they enter the house with the right foot and sprinkle the four corners of the house with the water, saying: “Just like the flowing water may goodness flow in our house”. Afterwards, they place a pomegranate on the threshold of the house and cast a stone so that the occupants of the house live a robust life.
